Focus point for the workshop will be the “formants”, meaning each of the many prominent frequency zones that define the phonetic quality of a vowel. In other words, formants are the harmonics of a note as it is amplified by an internal sonorous space. Sound will be approached through anatomy in order to understand internal reverberation spaces, and physics in order to understand frequencies and the way sound is transmitted. These elements will then become tools for understanding the way a frequency is produced in uttering a vowel. The workshop is open to students, artists and others who are interested in studying and experimenting with their voice as part of their creative process.
